MADRAS, Ore. -- While Madras didn't host a Veterans Day parade this year, the local Boy Scouts Troop is still honoring those who served. The Cub Scout Pack and the Boy Scout Troop are partnering with the nonprofit Wreaths Across America to honor veterans graves in Jefferson County. The scouts plan on placing wreaths on December 13, but they're fundraising now so every grave can be honored. “It's important that we honor them as much as we can," Boy Scout Giovanni Martinelli said. "Many of them paid the highest price for our freedom here in America, so I think that it's important to celebrate them as much as possible.” Giovanni has been a Boy Scout for more than a decade. His family has close ties to the military. “My grandpa was in the Navy during the Vietnam war," Giovanni said. "It's all of our freedoms that they fought for. And they continue to fight for it. And I think that's really important.” His family and the other scouts do their best to honor veterans every year. "They each have stories and they all sacrificed, whether they fought in a war or not. It was time and energy," Madras Cub & Boy Scout Chair Lorraine Martinelli said. "It was time away from the rest of their life that they gave to this country." The scouts in Madras have been partnered with Wreaths Across America for the last five years. This year, they're trying to raise enough money to place a wreath and honor all 600 veteran graves in the county. "In Warm Springs and Culver and Metolious, there's just so many different small cemeteries where veterans really do need to be honored," Lorraine said. "That's our goal -- to cover everyone and to honor them.” The support goes beyond just wreaths. Scouts helped put up 150 American flags in Mount Jefferson Memorial Cemetery. “Whenever we have the opportunity to help veterans, whether it's with dinners or service projects, retiring flags, Wreaths Across America, we've found that that it's what we do. PokéPark Kanto, the first permanent Pokémon theme park, will open its doors on February 5, 2026. Previous Pokémon parks and attractions existed in the past, but they were only open for a limited time. PokéPark Kanto will be located inside the Yomiuriland amusement park in Tokyo, Japan and will require an add-on pass to enter. Visitors will have to go through a “Pokémon Research Lab” building, which serves as the gateway to the park’s two sections: Pokémon Forest and Sedge Town The Pokémon Forest is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a stretch of land with hills, paths with tall grass, rocky trails and tunnels where visitors will see Pokémon in their natural habitats. The Pokémon statues are posed to show that they’re engaging in various activities, such as battling or playing with friends. Meanwhile, Sedge Town is the town center where visitors will find the Pokémon Center and Poké Mart, which sounds like a place where they can buy some refreshments. In addition to the main attractions, PokéPark Kanto will feature Pika Pika Paradise, a ride featuring over 30 electric-type Pokémon. There’s also Vee Vee Voyage, a carousel featuring carriages pulled by Ponyta and Rapidash, as well as balloons where visitors can ride with Eevee. We’ve yet to see actual photos of the park, but the trailer below will give you a glimpse of what you can expect.

The Yidan Center, which just topped out this month, cuts a dramatic figure against the city skyline with its rippled, canyon-like form that seems to defy conventional building logic. The 165,815-square-meter complex will serve as headquarters for the Yidan Prize and the Chen Yidan Foundation, both the brainchild of Tencent co-founder Dr. Charles Chen Yidan. The building sits at the heart of Shenzhen’s emerging cultural district, right next to the new Qianhai Museum, positioning itself as a serious player in the city’s cultural landscape. ZHA calls it a “canyon,” and the comparison isn’t hyperbole. City staff told the Land Use Committee on April 16 that they plan to adopt an interim ordinance to bring Port Orchard’s code into compliance with the state middle-housing law and the accessory dwelling unit statute. Jim Bisk, principal planner, said the city will implement "on a temporary basis, an interim ordinance that would adopt, those middle housing requirements for a tier 3 city" and noted the city needs to adopt revisions by June to comply with Commerce and state law. Bisk said the packet includes required definition language pulled from the statute and that the draft also incorporates provisions from the accessory-dwelling-unit legislation, which he referred to as the ADU bill. He described major changes: adjusted unit-density limits (for example, R2 would allow four units, while R3 would allow six), new building types including triplexes through sixplexes and stacked flats, and consolidation of residential design standards to reduce duplication. Nick Bond, community development director, and Bisk emphasized that the interim Tier 3 approach is intended to avoid the state's model ordinance taking effect locally. Bond said that if the city does not adopt its own ordinance, "the model ordinance from the state takes effect" and staff would have to compare the city code to the model for each application. For centuries, Odsherred was known as Copenhagen’s pantry, supplying ingredients that landed on the city's tables. Chefs still revel in the exceptional ingredients found here, but now, the region is more than just a purveyor. Increasingly it has become a culinary destination in its own right, thanks to a string of exceptional new restaurants that are rooted not just in Odsherred's terroir, but its community and identity as well.
