Shelby Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts ask community for food donati...
SHELBY — Forever Boy Scout Troop 406 and Cub Scout Pack 421 are asking the Shelby community for help. The two groups are teaming to lead a “scouting for food” program. Folks interested in donating can drop off food items at the First Lutheran Church Office, 33 Broadway St. in Shelby, through Nov. 5. Food donations being sought include anything that can sit on a shelf — items like canned goods, noodles, boxed meals, cake mixes and more. If any Shelby residents want to donate but cannot get to the church office, they may call the office at 419-347-7675 and a pickup time will be arranged for the afternoon/evening of Nov. 5. Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will deliver the collected food items to First Lutheran’s food pantry later that evening. According to Brian Crum, First Lutheran’s treasurer and office manager, the food pantry feeds 50 to 55 local families every week. First Lutheran’s food pantry is open every Wednesday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The church also offers a mobile food pantry on the third Tuesday of each month, June through September, at 10 a.m. in the First Lutheran parking lot. Crum is also the den leader of Cub Scout Pack 421 and the charter organization representative for Forever Boy Scout Troop 406. He said the “scouting for food” program dates back multiple decades. “I was a Cub Scout in like 1990 and we were doing it then,” Crum said. “I’m sure they probably did it even 15 years before that.” In past years, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts would distribute flyers to every house in the city and return to pickup food items the following weekend. But a limited amount of scouts has made that strategy a bit more challenging. “We didn’t want to just let it (scouting for food) go,” Crum said. “There’s a lot of good that comes from that. “In its heyday, I think we probably collected 10,000 to 12,000 cans of food a year. There’s no way we can do that (this year), but we’d still like to try and do something.”

The Jurupa Valley Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend the City Council adopt zoning-code amendments to align city regulations with two recent state laws governing accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and junior accessory dwelling units (JADUs). Principal planner Tamara Campbell told the commission the amendments implement provisions of Senate Bill 1211 and Assembly Bill 2533 enacted earlier this year. Campbell summarized key changes the city must adopt, including expanded allowances for ADUs on multifamily lots, updated definitions of livable space, modified height limits for detached ADUs in proximity to transit and multifamily dwellings, and tightened limits on when cities can require replacement parking. Campbell said the new state law permits more ADUs on lots with multifamily housing, allows detached ADU height to rise to 18 feet in certain circumstances, and prohibits cities from requiring replacement parking when a covered or uncovered parking space is converted to an ADU. She also described AB 2533's requirement that the city approve previously unpermitted JADUs constructed before Jan. 1, 2020, unless specific findings permit denial, and that the city provide an online checklist and avoid many local fees for legalizing ADUs. Campbell summarized the staff recommendation: "We are recommending that the Planning Commission conduct a public hearing by motion adopt resolution ... recommending that the City Council adopt the ordinance amending Title 9," and said staff determined the action is exempt from CEQA under 15061(b)(3). Commissioners asked staff about deed restrictions and whether a recorded restriction that reiterates state rules would violate state law. City counsel and staff said the proposed deed-restriction form is intended to inform property buyers of state-required occupancy and short-term-rental limits and is not meant to impose additional local standards prohibited by state statute. Staff noted HCD (the State Department of Housing and Com...

Planning commission forwards middle-housing code up...
The Newcastle Planning Commission voted May 28 to forward a draft middle-housing ordinance to the City Council after months of review, but the commission explicitly declined to recommend a proposed affordable-housing requirement and instead sent that question to the council. Associate Planner Tyler Coyle presented the draft code and the changes required by recent state laws, and asked commissioners for clear direction by the end of the meeting. “Staff is hoping that commission could take action, at the end of this meeting,” Coyle said, listing setback options for accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and potential affordable-housing incentives as the key choices. The commission debated several topics the staff highlighted: setback options for ADUs (a staff preference for a 5-foot rear setback versus a 10-foot or the current 20-foot standard), optional townhouse density bonuses along specific arterial streets, a proposed “10%” affordable-housing policy tied to new developments, and procedural changes required by state middle-housing and ADU legislation. Coyle summarized state changes by name as they appeared in staff materials, saying the package includes statutes that require cities of Newcastle’s size to allow duplexes and limit how cities can regulate middle housing, to adopt a unit-lot-subdivision process, and to allow up to two ADUs per lot that must be saleable and may not require owner occupancy. He also described changes affecting shelters and co-living. “All of this will come into force, in July,” Coyle told the commission, and staff said updating local code before that date would avoid the state default rules from taking effect. Public comment at the hearing was strongly mixed. Councilmember Jim Quigg, speaking during the general comment period, reminded commissioners of a city survey and said residents used the words “small, safe and quiet” to describe what they want Newcastle to remain. Resident Kim Snorski, who said she has lived in Newcastle more than 35 year...

However, we may receive compensation from retailers and/or from purchases of products through these links. When my now-husband and I started planning our wedding, we agreed on three things right off the bat: We wanted to get married in Italy, have a small guest list, and keep the celebrations going as long as possible. If our nearest and dearest were traveling halfway across the world to see us get married, it only made sense to spend a few extra days together in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It was soon decided—our wedding would take place over four days at a farmhouse in Tuscany, and then a few of us would continue onto what we affectionately began to call our “friends-moon”. A seaside destination felt like the right way to wind down after a non-stop wedding weekend, and the dramatic views and sparkling water of the Amalfi Coast immediately rose to the top of our list. We needed a villa that could fit nine of us comfortably, with common areas to hang out in together and that picture-perfect backdrop that is synonymous with Positano. Villa Petite Syrene by Elite Villas checked all of those boxes and more (so much so that at first, I didn’t believe it could be real). Spoiler: It was very much real. We arrived in Positano after a long travel day and were greeted by the house manager, Valerio, who marched us through the winding, crowded streets to our villa, which is tucked away off the main street. Villa Petite Syrene is nestled quite literally in the middle of Le Sirenuse, with the hotel’s private balconies visible from the villa’s spacious, yellow-and-blue tiled terrace below. The view from the terrace immediately took our breath away (that, or the dozens of stairs we just climbed to reach it). To the right, the dome of Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta looked close enough to touch; the cliffside behind it is covered in colorful buildings that seemed...

Taking a Historical Walk Through Paris with Context Travel
I love walking tours. Long time readers know I always recommend doing them first thing when you’re in a city. It doesn’t matter the type you do. Food, history, art – whatever! Just do something. They’re an incredible way to learn about a destination, get your bearings, and talk to a local about life in the city. (Plus, you can ask your local guidefor tips on restaurants, attractions, or how to navigate the city! Win-win!) I’ve been taking walking tours since my first backpacking trip in 2006 when I joined a hostel’s free walking tour around Prague. I was hooked and, over the years, I’ve taken hundreds upon hundreds of tours run by dozens upon dozens of companies. There are tons of walking tour companies out there, but one of my favorites is Context Travel. Context was founded in 2003 and I’ve been using and recommending them since 2010 when I first stumbled across one of their tours in Rome. I walked with an art historian around the Vatican, where I not only learned about the Vatican itself, but the stories behind the art. Since then, I’ve done countless tours with them. What has always set Context apart is that rather than use regular people trained as guides, they use experts (those with MA- or PhD-level degrees!) in their fields to lead you around. This way, you get someone who really knows what they are talking about. You get someone who can share the little details that only an expert in their field would know. During a recent trip to Paris, I did Context’s Paris WWII History Tour. Now, I know a lot about Paris. I’ve been visiting for 15 years, lived there for a short period, have probably done over 50 tours there, and have read so many books on the city that I sometimes feel like I’m studying for a degree in Paris history. But my interest in the city is primarily based around the 1920s (I love the Jazz Age!) and medieval times. I don’t know a lot about World War II Paris. Sure, I know some things from my general studies, but I don’t know a lot of specific know...

Beyond the Beaten Path: Spain’s Hidden Villages and Un...
Spain has long been associated with sun-drenched beaches, vibrant cities, and world-famous cuisine. While Barcelona, Madrid, and Ibiza are famous for a reason, the true soul of Spain is often found in its remote corners. One of the areas I love the best is Northern Spain, with its green mountains, rugged coastline, and medieval villages, offers an entirely different perspective. It doesn’t get as many visitors as the hotspots in the south but it is just as beautiful in my opinion. If you want to see a quieter side of Spain, consider stepping off the usual tourist trail and heading north after your flight to Madrid. Spend a few days in Madrid (which is amazing) and then train it north for a week or more to wander along paths the Romans once carved into mountains, explore deserts few travelers know, and hike to villages where traditions persist centuries after empires have fallen. Today, I want to share three destinations that I love: Las Médulas, the Bardenas Reales, and Santillana del Mar. Each offers a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and cultural immersion, and each is accessible enough from Madrid. Table of Contents 1. Las Médulas Nearly two millennia ago, Roman engineers transformed this landscape in search of gold. Using a technique called ruina montium (“wrecking of mountains”), they channeled water through tunnels to collapse entire hillsides, revealing the region’s gold deposits. The result is a surreal landscape of jagged red cliffs, hollows, and gullies, softened by forests of chestnut trees and dotted with walking trails. Today, Las Médulas is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a testament to human ingenuity and the enduring power of nature. Hiking through the gullies and Roman galleries, it’s easy to imagine the labor and vision required to reshape this rugged terrain. What I love about Las Médulas is the quiet. Even in high season, you can find stretches of trail where the only sounds are your footsteps and the rustle of leaves. The views from the...

如何获取 2026 年 FIFA 世界杯门票:完整旅行指南 - How to Get FIFA World Cup 2026 Tickets: A Comple...
All products and listings featured on Condé Nast Traveler are independently selected by our editors. However, we may receive compensation from retailers and/or from purchases of products through these links. The World Cup is more than a tournament—it’s a passport stamp in motion. And for soccer-obsessed globe-trotters (or football-obsessed, depending where you hail from), it can be a 90-minute crescendo in the middle of a week spent wandering through new cities, flavors, and cultures. In 2026, the FIFA World Cup will unfold across three countries for the first time—Canada, the United States, and Mexico—turning North America into one sprawling, exhilarating stage for the world’s most beloved sport. It’s the ultimate ticket to adventure for travelers who crave the pulse of a crowd as much as they do a skyline at sunset or a post-match mezcal in a hidden rooftop bar. But how do you get in? Where do you get tickets? And once you have them, how do you turn a soccer match into the trip of a lifetime? Let’s break it all down, one question at a time. When is the FIFA World Cup? The 2026 FIFA World Cup officially begins on Thursday, June 11, 2026, with the opening match taking place at Mexico City's legendary Estadio Azteca. It’s a fitting place to start—a cathedral of soccer history, nestled in a city brimming with art, energy, and a culinary scene that could rival the tournament's grandeur. Over the following month, 48 teams will compete across North America in the biggest World Cup to date. After 104 matches, the tournament will conclude on Sunday, July 19, 2026; the final match will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, just a short train ride from Manhattan. When do tickets go on sale, and how can I get them? Ticket sales for the FIFA World Cup 2026 officially began on September 10, 2025, launching what’s expected to be the most sought-after ticketing event in sports of all time. The first phase of sales was accessible to Visa cardholders, who regis...

- Bountiful Council approves ordinance ...
The Bountiful City Council on Aug. 26 approved Ordinance 2025-13, rewriting parts of the city’s land-use code to clarify how accessory structures and accessory dwelling units (ADUs) are measured and to allow an enhanced height option for ADUs. City planner Francisco presented the ordinance and told the council that “an accessory dwelling unit may comply with the following enhanced height and setbacks. And that’s where you find the 25 foot to the peak and then the 20 foot sidewall.” Francisco said the draft reorganizes confusing setback text and places the new height policy in a clearer location in the code. The ordinance establishes a 25-foot maximum to the peak for permitted ADU height and an enhanced 20-foot sidewall provision. During discussion the council focused on how mansard roofs should be treated: whether to measure them to a 25-foot peak or treat the mansard as a sidewall and limit it to 20 feet under the sidewall measurement rule. Councilwoman Price said she preferred keeping the existing sidewall measurement for mansard and flat roofs and noted, “To me, I don’t see the need to change the language on that.” Several other council members said they were comfortable either way but supported inserting the clarifying sentence to maintain consistency. Council members instructed staff to reinsert the previously struck language so the code explicitly reads, in two places, “For a flat or mansard roof, the sidewall shall be measured from the average slope of the ground to the highest point of the roof, including any coping, parapet or similar feature.” Francisco indicated the language will be placed in the ADU enhanced-height sections in the permit and conditional-use subsections. Councilwoman Bradshaw moved to approve the ordinance with the amendments inserting the flat/mansard sidewall measurement in both locations; Councilwoman Child seconded. The council voted in favor; the motion passed. The ordinance reorganizes existing code language (staff described the reo...

Hooper planners propose changes to accessory dwelling and...
Hooper City planning staff presented draft amendments to the city’s accessory dwelling unit (ADU) and accessory‑structure rules and asked the Planning Commission for feedback before the city council takes up the ordinance. The draft includes changes to minimum and maximum sizes, lot‑size thresholds by residential zone, and parking requirements for ADUs and detached accessory units. Staff said the proposal would keep a 400‑square‑foot minimum for accessory dwellings but would cap ADU area as a share of principal‑lot buildable area. Staff discussed a model in which ADUs could be limited to 50 percent of the allowable accessory‑structure square footage, with a conditional‑use option to allow larger units in some cases. Commissioners and staff discussed alternative approaches such as setting a higher fixed maximum in R‑3 zones (for example, 1,800–2,000 square feet) or allowing a higher percentage in specific circumstances so that a 900‑square‑foot ADU could remain possible on typical lots. The draft also proposes revising lot‑size thresholds for certain zoning categories: staff said a draft would move some R‑2 thresholds to 2,500 square feet, R‑3 to 3,000, and R‑1 to 5,000 (staff characterized these as proposed thresholds for the city’s review). Commissioners asked staff to clarify how those thresholds interact with the ADU percentage caps so that existing applicants would not be unintentionally excluded. Parking rules were flagged for more work. Current parking requirements were discussed as one parking space per dwelling; staff said the commission had discussed requiring two parking spaces for some ADUs or providing staff discretion during review. Commissioners also asked staff to identify rear‑yard coverage limits, setback and utility separation rules, and enforcement approaches for accessory structures that convert into living units. Commissioners discussed allowing detached accessory structures while limiting total lot coverage to protect neighboring yards and drai...

Energy for AI Boom
Energy for AI Boom The valuations and aspirations of large technology companies are growing at a rapid pace. The consumption of AI data centers in the US is expected to increase from the current 4 GW to 120 GW within ten years, which corresponds to 10% of the entire power grid's capacity. This milestone will only be a stop that AI companies want to pass through at full speed. However, these dreams cannot be fueled by expectations alone. In recent days, the first pieces have fallen into place in the puzzle of where data centers worth hundreds of billions of dollars will get their energy. On Tuesday, the US administration entered into a partnership with Westinghouse Electric to build nuclear reactors worth USD 80 billion. One nuclear power plant block currently provides approximately 1GW of power. The agreement brings a revival to the construction of nuclear power plants, as only two blocks have been built in the US in the last eight years after long delays and a staggering cost between 30 to 35 billion USD. For the project to be profitable, the price will have to be drastically reduced. Another discussed alternative is the use of gas-fired power plants, which currently produce 44% of the country's electricity. Their construction would build on from the planned doubling of natural gas production thanks to off-shore drills planned in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska. The cost of building a 1GW gas-fired power plant is estimated at between 2 and 2.5 billion USD, with annual operating costs of gas accounting for 100 million USD. Google has partly gone down this route, purchasing a 400 MW power plant this week to supply its data center. The question of how to finance the construction of energy infrastructure is also reflected in foreign policy. On Wednesday Donald Trump on his trip to Asia signed a trade deal with Japan that includes investments by Japanese companies in critical energy infrastructure totaling USD 400 billion. The cooperation includes the production and insta...

Tesla to ramp to 500 ...
Tesla’s Robotaxi pilot is still in its early stages, but it seems like the program in Austin and the Bay Area will see a notable update soon. This was, at least, as per recent comments from CEO Elon Musk during his appearance on the All-In podcast. Robotaxi expansion While discussing Tesla’s Robotaxi ambitions, Elon Musk shared some tidbits about the company’s targets for the autonomous ride-hailing program. As per Musk, Tesla is pushing to increase its Robotaxi fleet size in Austin to 500 units. The Robotaxi fleet in the Bay Area will also be increased to 1,000 units. These expansions are expected to be accomplished by the end of the year. “We’re scaling up the number of cars to, what happens if you have a thousand cars? Probably we’ll have a thousands cars or more in the Bay Area by the end of this year, probably 500 or more in the greater Austin area,” Musk said in the podcast. Considering that there are only two months left in the fourth quarter of 2025, Tesla’s Robotaxi team will likely be extremely busy during the next eight weeks. A successful expansion of the Robotaxi pilot in Austin and the Bay Area will also bode well for the company’s ride-hailing program, which has been pretty conservative as of late. Musk’s Robotaxi comments Elon Musk has been pretty clear in the past that Tesla’s FSD and Robotaxi network would play a huge role in the company’s future valuation and potential. Thus, during the third quarter earnings call, Musk highlighted that Tesla will also be transitioning to a system with no safety monitors in Austin by the end of the year. “We are expecting to have no safety drivers in at least large parts of Austin by the end of this year. So within a few months, we expect to have no safety drivers at all in at least parts of Austin. We’re obviously being very cautious about the deployment,” Musk said during the Q3 2025 earnings call. Elon Musk just roasted Sam Altman’s Tesla Roadster cancellation “And you forgot to mention act 4, where this issue ...

“Tesla Ride”计划让乘客在现实世界中体验 FSD 和 Grok AI - “Tesla Ride” program lets riders exper...
Tesla has launched a new service designed to make its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology familiar to all commuters. Dubbed the “Tesla Ride” program, the initiative aims to bring supervised Full Self-Driving demos and Grok AI-guided experiences to consumers in real world trips. How Tesla Ride Works As per the official Tesla Ride website, the session will allow participants to sit in the driver’s seat while a Tesla Advisor rides shotgun as co-pilot. The Tesla Advisor then guides riders through the company’s latest supervised FSD features, comfort settings, and in-car entertainment. Participants would also be able to interact with Grok AI in the vehicles. Grok will be capable of answering questions during the ride, and it will even tell stories along the way. Tesla noted, however, that Tesla Ride sessions are capped at 45 minutes each, and it requires participants to have a valid driver’s license and insurance. Interested participants are also advised to call beforehand so they can schedule their Tesla Rides. Marketing push and reach The Tesla Ride program runs across several markets from October into November, and in some locations into the end of December 2025. Participating states are numerous, from Michigan to Virginia to Illiois, Nevada, and California, among others. A look at the official webpage for Tesla Ride shows that the company is still taking a very cautious approach with the program, with disclaimers clearly stating that FSD Supervised does not make Teslas autonomous just yet. Tesla’s focus on safety with FSD was highlighted recently by Senior Vice President for Automotive Tom Zhu. “Elon said it in 2021: “For self-driving, even if the road is painted completely wrong and a UFO lands in the middle of the road, the car still cannot crash and still needs to do the right thing. “The prime directive for the autopilot system is: Don’t crash. That really overrides everything. No matter what the lines say or how the road is done, the thing that needs to happen is...

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) V14 update for the Cybertruck could arrive this weekend, as per recent comments from Director of Autopilot Software and VP of AI Ashok Elluswamy. The Cybertruck was expected to receive FSD V14 before the end of the month, but Tesla was not able to meet the target. Cybertruck FSD V14 Considering the extended wait for FSD V14, it was no surprise that several Cybertruck owners were asking for updates about the system’s rollout to the all-electric pickup truck on Friday. These included the official Cybertruck X account, which responded to Elluswamy’s end of month estimate with “I only see trick. Where is my treat.” This prompted a response from the AI executive, who replied with, “Sorry, pushing for early access Cyber release over the weekend.” This means that if all goes well, Cybertruck owners would be able to experience FSD V14 very soon. Some, however, are wondering if Tesla would go straight to V14.2 for the Cybertruck’s FSD V14 update, or if the vehicle will receive V14.1 first. Tesla pushes to unify FSD experience across its lineup The upcoming Cybertruck rollout represents the next step in Tesla’s efforts to roll out FSD capabilities across all of its vehicles. FSD V14 is a notable step forward for the company’s AI-driven self driving system, with features like Mad Max mode getting positive reviews from longtime Full Self Driving testers. For the Cybertruck, the FSD V14 update would mark one of its first major over-the-air upgrades for the vehicle. Likely due to its size, the Cybertruck tends to receive FSD updates later than the S3XY lineup, which is quite surprising considering that the all-electric pickup truck is a premium-priced vehicle that is home to some of Tesla’s most advanced technologies.
SpaceX achieved its 100th Starlink mission of the year on Friday, October 31, marking another milestone for 2025. A Falcon 9 rocket carrying 28 Starlink broadband satellites successfully lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California at 4:41 p.m. ET, carrying another 28 Starlink satellites to Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Falcon 9 booster’s 29th flight Roughly 8.5 minutes after liftoff, the Falcon 9’s first stage touched down on the drone ship Of Course I Still Love You in the Pacific Ocean. This marked the booster’s 29th flight, which is approaching SpaceX’s reuse record of 31 missions. This latest mission adds to SpaceX’s impressive 138 Falcon 9 launches in 2025, 99 of which were dedicated to Starlink, according to Space.com. The company’s focus on reusing boosters has enabled this breakneck pace, with multiple launches each week supporting both Starlink’s expansion and external customers. Starlink’s network continues massive global expansion Starlink remains the largest active satellite constellation in history, with more than 10,000 satellites launched, nearly 8,800 of which are currently active. SpaceX recently achieved Starlink’s 10,000-satellite milestone. With 100 Starlink missions completed for 2025, space enthusiasts have noted that SpaceX has successfully launched 2,554 Starlink satellites so far this year. Starlink, which provides high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity even to the world’s most remote areas, has been proven to be life-changing technology for people across the globe. The service is currently operational in about 150 countries, and it currently has over 5 million subscribers worldwide. From this number, 2.7 million joined over the past year.
Anacortes Planning Commission members on Feb. 12 continued a detailed line-by-line review of draft municipal-code changes prompted by the 2023 Housing Action Plan (HAP) and City Council referrals. Commissioners discussed residential lot-size minimums for duplexes and small duplexes, whether Old Town zoning should match nearby zones, how accessory dwelling unit (ADU) state mandates intersect with local lot-size rules, minimum-density proposals for the R4 zone, and several design and definition clarifications. Staff planning manager Libby Grama reminded the commission the HAP was adopted in 2023 and that city council’s planning committee selected a subset of strategies to forward to the planning commission for code-change recommendations. Grama said staff prepared draft code amendments (strike-through/underline version) and cross-referenced HAP strategy numbers to help commissioners track proposed edits. Lot sizes and ‘‘small duplex’’ carve-outs: Commissioners discussed a recommended reduction in duplex minimum lot sizes. The packet showed an R2 duplex minimum of 9,000 sq ft in one table, while another zone-specific standard referenced 7,500 sq ft; staff explained the intention is to retain a larger-lot threshold for a regular duplex but to add an explicit “small duplex” category with a 6,000 sq ft minimum in Old Town (mirroring R3-style standards). Commissioners suggested inserting the adjective “small” where relevant (for example, in zone-specific standards) to avoid confusion between a regular duplex and a small duplex and agreed to the following working directions: keep the standard duplex lot-size row as shown, add a separate “small duplex” row set to 6,000 sq ft in Old Town, and set the additional lot size needed for each additional attached dwelling unit beyond a duplex to 1,500 sq ft for Old Town. Old Town questions and design standards: Commissioners debated whether Old Town should continue to be treated differently from R2/R3 zones. Staff noted Old Town is s...
